Merhaba! İki sömestr Türkçe öğrenciyim. Gelecek sömestr Orta Doğu Teknik Universitesinde oğrenmek için Ankaraya gideceğim. Şimdi yurtdişindan çıkmayı hazirlanıyorum. Onun için mümkün mertebe sık sık Türkçe konuşmak istiyorum. Ben akıcı bir şekilde konuşanımı arzu ediyorum. Birlikte Türkçe konuşalım!

Düzeltmeleri takdir ederim.

Hi! I am a second semester Turkish student. Next semester I am going to Ankara to study at Middle East Technical University. Right now I am getting ready to leave the country. Therefore I want to get as much practice speaking in Turkish as possible. I wish to be a fluent speaker. Let's speak Turkish together!

Corrections are greatly appreciated!

Merhaba...

So I think my Turkish is at approximately the intermediate level and I would like to find a textbook to teach me some more aspects of grammar, usage, stylistics, etc. I've been noticing that there are structures in news articles and such that I am completely unfamiliar with. Does anyone have any recommendations for books and/or textbooks that would fill such a need?

Thanks.

I'm taking a linguistics class right now and one of the languages we are going to look at it is Turkish. We haven't started it yet as we're still on English grammar, but we're working with a Turkish sentence for a morphology project. I don't know very much Turkish at all, and I am having a really hard time trying to find a translation for this sentence. Could someone please help me out?

The sentence is Ogrencilerimizden. The only clue we're given is that ogrenci means "one who studies".

I'd appreciate any possible help. Thanks!

We’re planning to publish a collection of translations of the poem “Might fame to descendents I leave…” by the late Gennady Grigoryev:

***

Might fame to descendents I leave in my will?

For any of you – bear in mind –

There is no inheritance, zero, nil,

There's nothing I’m leaving behind.

Crimea, the Baltic, the wash of the sea,

The yacht and the mast with a sail

…………………………………..

This life when I go I am taking with me,

So live without life.

Live and wail.

Our goal is to translate this poem into as many languages as possible – the more the merrier, including Latin and other ancient tongues.

Translators are invited to post their texts as separate entries. We urge you to use tags (e.g., Finnish, Spanish, correction, draft, etc.) and not to get carried away inventing new ones.

You’ll get what’s coming to you: your translation will be published (if it gets approved by our experts). NB: there will be no monetary reward; we can only afford publication expenses.

Only one translation into each of the languages will be published. Comments and collaboration are, therefore, strongly encouraged.

Heading this project are Yevgueniy Myakishev, Nutty Professor Bolduman, Gennady Grigoryev’s son, and Max Orkis.

Affedersiniz, does somebody know how the name of Turkish football team FENERBAHÇE could be translated? Or it can't be translated in principle?
Çok teşekkür ederim!

I'm curious, has anyone studied at the Middle Eastern Technical University in Ankara, Turkey? I may be studying abroad over at that school come next septemeber and I want to know how much Turkish I should know before I go over there. Although the study abroad program gives us a intensive turkish course ahead of time... I want to be some what prepared.

Merhaba--
I'm trying to say thank you to my host families during a recent month-long stay in Turkey, most of whom spoke no English at all. I had a little help with the following, but can you tell me of this makes sense? I basically wanted to say thank you, good luck, and ask them to keep in touch.

Türkiye'de geçirdiğim zaman süresince bana kendimi ailenizden bir parçaymış gibi hissettirdiginiz için sizlere çok teşekkür ederim. Lütfen irtibatımızı sürdürelim. Tanrı sizi korusun. En iyi dileklerimle.

Teşekkür ederim!
2nd-Jul-2007 01:26 pm - Help with some Phrases?
eyebinary
I live at a boarding school and this year during summer session we just got in small batch of turkish kids. The children are good kids but communication is weak and I was wondering if I could get some people to help me learn a few phrases that would be helpful.

Imperatives like: Stop, Listen, Be quiet, Come Back, Wait here.

Of course I would like to be able to praise them a bit in thier own language. Like: Good Work etc.

But things like: Clean your room, and be careful are most important.

We get lots of children from abroad but I personally have never seen any turkish children come to school. If anyone can help I would be very thankful. I just need to keep them safe, occasionally quiet and be able to give a little praise

thank you!
